On 30 May 2017, the NSW Government announced the reintroduction of the Emergency Services Levy (ESL). The legislation reintroducing the obligation on insurance companies to collect the ESL became effective on 1 July 2017.
The Insurance Monitor issued a number of guidelines to support its reintroduction. Those guidelines include providing an explanation to customers that their insurance premium includes a charge for ESL.
As a consequence the Monitor has requested we include such an explanation to all NSW Home Insurance policyholders.
Could you please provide your current clients and any new clients with the attached information notice on the NSW Emergency Services Levy. We are in the process of automating this function so future renewals and new business will include a link to this notice.
